Lady Gaga and Elton John's Grammys duet: Did you think they were on fire?
Lady Gaga and Elton John just sang their much anticipated two-piano-powered duet at the Grammy Awards—a fusion of Gaga’s “Speechless” and Sir Elton’s “Your Song.” The number followed the very first song of the night, a lavish performance by Gaga of “Poker Face” that culminated in a bit of stage business where she was seemingly set on fire. The whole shebang was hardly lacking in spectacle, and full marks to the pair for adopting a rather, well, singed look for their collaboration. But will it go down as a really memorable Grammy moment, comparable with the Elton/Eminem performance of “Stan” in 2001? Maybe not. But what did you think of the Grammys opener? Was it hot? Or overcooked? by Clark Collis ETweekly.com
Talk of Parties, Lady Gaga Dominates Grammy Carpet
The Grammy Awards give the music industry a reason to party like — well — like rock stars, and the party begins on the red carpet outside Staples Center. It was there on Sunday that guests greeted their fellow musicians, talked about the weekend's festivities and speculated about what Lady Gaga would wear this time. GAGA'S GETUP: Keri Hilson, John Legend, Ringo Starr, Seal and numerous others spent a good part of their time on the red carpet guessing what envelope-pushing outfit Lady Gaga would arrive in. "I'm going to go with lettuce," said best new artist nominee Hilson, who wore a body-hugging Dolce and Gabbana gown. Rappers Redfoo and Sky Blu of LMFAO predicted the avant-garde artist would wear "probably a fish tank, with live fish and a snorkel." Starr said "she may be all in blue, like 'Avatar.' Anyway, who knows. I want to be surprised." Alice Cooper's guess? "I think she'll be wearing a Lionel train set on her head tonight, with the full smoke and everything like that. I wouldn't be surprised, and I'll be disappointed if she isn't." Seal said Gaga's outfit was the "main topic of debate" on the carpet. His wife, "Project Runway" host Heidi Klum, was among those eager to see the pop star's Grammy ensemble. "I don't personally know her music," Klum said. "But I am definitely intrigued by all her outfits. They're so out there and I do want to know what she's wearing, to be honest." Gaga didn't disappoint. She arrived in a shiny, silvery, three-dimensional number that was created in collaboration with Giorgio Armani, then changed into a green fairy-wing bodysuit with matching green sparkle booties to open the show. Alice Cooper: Lady Gaga is 'not just a costume freak'
Presenter Alice Cooper explained the secret for his longevity. "If you can take that animated character and leave him up there … leave him onstage and then you can co-exist with him. As soon as I'm offstage, Alice stays there." He praised Lady Gaga, both in appearance and performance. "I think anybody who takes it as vaudeville as she has taken it is OK by me. … Lady Gaga sang with Elton John tonight and nailed it. She proved she's not just a costume freak. … She's going to be around as long as she wants." He also talked about what it was like to become a golfer. "I had to be a closet golfer when I started because it was so against my image. It was one of those things when I stopped drinking I had to find something to take that time up." — Bill Keveney
Katy Perry Calls Fellow Grammy Nominee Lady Gaga 'A Reigning Queen'
"Gaga knows she has it. She's dethroned everybody," Perry says. BEVERLY HILLS, California — Katy Perry is in awe of fellow pop superstar and Grammy nominee Lady Gaga. Perry knows that if anyone is going to leave people buzzing at the water-cooler on Monday morning, it will most likely be the over-the-top New Yorker. In fact, Perry, who is nominated for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for her song "Hot N Cold," said that Gaga has really forced everyone to step up their game. "Gaga knows she has it. She's dethroned everybody," Perry told MTV News on the red carpet of the Pre-Grammy Gala on Saturday night. "She's like a reigning queen." Perry, who knows what it's like to be a pop star who marches to the beat of her own drummer, admires how Gaga has her act down. Not only is everyone looking forward to Gaga's performance on Sunday, but she's also up for five awards. "Really, I think that she just knew what she was doing, and she's just playing the game on a totally different level," Perry said. "And people are now just playing catch-up with her. When I saw her on the AMAs, I was like, whatever. She was just in the Bowie/Prince kind of level." MTVNews.com
